Theam Notebook 2

In the short story Thank You Ma'am the kindness and consideration from Luella  are  seen throughout  the story. at the start of the book the main protagonist Luella is walking along the street when a street kid comes up behind her and tries to snatch her bag. He fails to do this and falls over trying, she grabs him and surprisingly rather than taking him to the police she takes him home. She asks about him finding out his name is Roger. she also asks why he wanted to  steal her bag and Roger says he wanted a new pair of shoes. this makes her remember back to childhood when she could not have what she wanted, she shared this with him and said sometimes you cannot have everything you want. Even though he tried to steal from her she shows compassion for the boy she cares for him by cleaning him up feeding him and giving him the money to buy the shoes. He feels guilty for trying to steal from her when she is now being so trusting and caring. She gives him the money to buy the new shoes and we hope that this act of kindness will make Roger think again about stealing from someone to get what he wants.

Another book which shows some compassion and kindness from the main character is the Harry Potter books. In the first book harry shows kindness to Ron by buying the sweeties from the cart and sharing them with Ron when harry realises Ron has no money. He also sticks for other characters such as Neville when Draco teases him and steals from him. Harry always supports Hermione when she is picked on for being both smart and not being a full wizard. All the way through the books JK Rowling's made Harry the quiet hero always there supporting those less fortunate than him. He also had a terrible childhood which made him want to be nice to other people who needed him.

Even though the two stories are very very different similarities are there. in lots of stories there is the underlying feeling of kindness and consideration for others. In Thank you Ma'am Luella is reminded of her own childhood and how sad she was and I feel her hope is that being nice to Roger will help him change the way he is and maybe he will think twice about stealing again.

Betrayal can lead to vengeance!

Betrayal can lead to vengeance is shown in Roald Dahl's story “Lamb to Slaughter.” In the book lamb to the slaughter the Character Mary Maloney is a stay home wife with a perfect house. Betrayal can be ment in different ways. In the article the Pakistani people feel betrayed by there military because the military is not willing to pay for the damage done by the floods. This is like Mary Maloney and her husband because her husband comes home one night and tells her he is leaving her. He all so said he would giver her some money. Just like the military said they would give the Pakistani people money to cover the damage.

Betrayal can lead to vengeance is shown in every day life. Like Mary Maloney she thought she had a perfect life but she didn’t her husband stole that perfect life from her. she killed her husband to live a happier life.
